Asota STATE Three Nor’easters named All-State after finals appearance

NEW INGTON — Following their second-straight trip to the CIAC Division III Finals, the Newington Nor’easters co- op was honored with three Connecticut High School Coaches Association All- State selections.

The Nor’easter’s top selection as a member of the CHSCA Division III All-State First Team was senior defenseman Evan Howard. Howard scored 14 goals and logged 12 assists which was good for 26 points. His 14 goals were good enough for fourth-most on the team and ranked fifth in points.

Howard was one of four defenseman selected and the only Nor’easter represented on the first team.

Two more players from the co-op were on the board as second team members.

Senior goaltender Jeremy Wagner was selected as one of two goalies on the second team along with Patrick Gummer of Norwalk/ McMahon. Wagner’s cool demeanor was a stabilizin force for Newington en route to a conference title and making it back to the state championship. Through 20 regular season games played, Wagner let up just 33 goals for a 1.69 goals against avergae to pair with his .904 save percentage. The senior had five regular season shutouts to his name as well.

Also coming in on the second team was senior forward Harrison Ranger.

Ranger was one of 11 forwards selected for the second team.

Ranger was perhaps the most prolific weapon head coach David Harackiewicz had at his disposal this season. The senior recorded 20 goals and 30 assists for 50 points — eight points clear of the next highest total. Ranger collected his 100th
