PLAINVILLE - Sen. Henri Martin and Rep. Francis Rexford Cooley paid a visit to the Plainville Senior Center to update them on state issues and legislation which could affect their lives.

Martin, a Republican who represents Bristol, Plymouth, Plainville, Harwinton and Thomaston, and Cooley, a Republican who represents Plainville, Southington and Farmington, visited the Plainville Senior Center last week.

The event was designed to provide residents with an opportunity to speak with each of the lawmakers in a relaxed setting about issues affecting the district, bill proposal ideas and other legislative related topics.

"Some of the topics discussed included the status of the state budget, an explanation of the budget and committee process in the legislature," Martin said. "Many people in attendance had concerns with the high cost of electricity and how energy rates are increasing as Connecticut is facing historic inflation."

Martin and Cooley also answered questions about teacher pensions and social security.

Cooley said the event was a "great opportunity" to hear the thoughts of local seniors about the "state of our state."

"Our seniors have needs that are, in many ways, under-served today - especially since many of us will someday share many of these same concerns," Cooley said. "Many residents are worried about our state economy, especially those on fixed incomes."

Martin and Cooley encouraged seniors who could not make the event but have questions and would like to connect with them, to reach out. Martin can be reached at 860240-8800. Cooley can be reached at 800-842-1423.

Martin serves on the Finance and Revenue & Bonding committees. He is also a ranking member on the Commerce Committee and Transportation Committee. Additionally, he is a member of the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee.

Cooley serves on the Education Committee, Higher Education and Employment Committee and Environment Committee.
