Over 800 children benefit from Warm the Children
LIONS CLUB OF NEW BRITAIN
At a recent school assembly, Northend Elementary School Principal Rolanda Booker thanked and recognized the Lions Club of New Britain for its Warm the Children Program, which recently provided winter clothing to more than 60 Northend children.
Now in its 10th year, the program was started in New Britain by Town Clerk Mark Bernacki and is currently administered by Lion Stephanie Frank of New Britain.
With the assistance of The New Britain Herald and a grant from the City of New Britain, the club raised nearly $50,000 this winter. Throughout the school system the Lions provided boots, hats and warm winter coats to more than 800 children ages 3-10.
The parents or guardians may spend up to $70 per child at Westfarms’ J.C. Penney, which gives the program significant discounts. Dozens of community volunteers assist in the shopping process.
